Three facts you should know about RCDs
Some important things you should know about RCDs.
1. An RCD, or Residual Current Device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against electrical fires.
2. Minimum of two RCDs are required in a domestic installation. Household circuits are required to be split evenly between a minimum of two RCDs. This is because in the event that one circuit fails, there
will still be some power and lighting remaining for the homeowner/tenant.
3. It is recommended that home owners and tenants check the functioning of their RCDs, by pressing the test button every month and engaging a licenced electrician to test them once a year ($88 including GST).
